I spent the afternoon brewing up an Imperial IPA with my brother-in-law Jeff. It was an extract-based recipe I kind of made up as I went along, juiced up with a pound of Candi sugar and 1.5 lbs. of toasted malt for flavor. I used Chinook and Cascade hops, the former for bittering and the latter for aroma.
Something about brewing really perks up your senses when you drink beer the same day – maybe your mind is better attuned to the aromas and can somehow isolate different flavors more easily. Or maybe I was just smelling a bit of wort that secreted itself under my nose. Whatever the case, I found this a solid IPA and I can’t wait to try more of their beers.
