I messed up my flavor wheel. I was managing a lot of elements as I sipped this beer at the just-opened Migration Brewing, the first brewpub anywhere near my neighborhood. I had my 9-month-old son on my lap and a plate of pulled pork in front of me. So you’ll forgive me if I marked a few dots on the flavor wheel erroneously. Can’t wait to try Migration’s beers on tap at their brewpub – they’re currently pouring an eclectic selection of Oregon taps until they get their ATF license and remaining brewing equipment. Lompoc did let them brew an initial batch of what will become their signature Pale Ale, which should go on in a few days. Looks like it will be a cool place, especially in the summer.

Which star rating for you would be “I’d like to drink this again.” 3 stars? To me 3 stars is average and it would mean “I would look for something else before ordering this one.” Could you give us a little hint into what the stars mean?

I think you nailed it. 3 stars to me means I wouldn’t avoid it, but I wouldn’t seek it out, either. Four stars I think is an above-average example, and 5 stars is a rating reserved for my very favorite beers in a style. And, remember that this is a record of my individual taste experience – I’m sure in some cases yours would be different.
