Went around a few times about the meaning of the name of this beer, the type of conversation that can only make sense in a bar (especially true at the Horse Brass). In French, the word means “bath” or “swim,” and Bruges does have a lot of canals, so a water-based meaning makes sense. But the city in northern Belgium is spelled two different ways, depending on your native tongue. For the French speakers, it’s “Bruges.” But for the Flemish, it’s “Brugge.” Apparently the good folks at Cascade are bilingual, having mixed a French activity with a Flemish city. Clearly, there’s some deeper meaning I haven’t yet grasped. Maybe you have a theory? In either case, this is delicious beer.

My theory is that it’s a nod to brewer Curtis Bain, whom Ron has lately been giving some latitude to follow his bliss.
