Ahh, darts at the A&L Tavern. On the one hand, the bar has a pretty large selection of taps, and is home to some of Portland’s best chicken strips. On the other, choosing a beer here can be a bit of a crap shoot – you want to choose something popular so you can be sure the keg isn’t too old. But the popular beers at this working man’s sports bar tend towards “yellow beer,” and so you have to gamble a bit. I hadn’t seen Copperhook on tap until just recently, so I figured it must be newish, and thus, safe. Turns out it’s a spring seasonal, and intended to be a Pale Ale. To me, it’s much more of an Amber, but I don’t get too hung up on names. Bad lines? Not so into.
