Day two at the coast. I picked this little gem up at Corvallis Brewing Supply*, an equally sparkly bottle shop/homebrew store in downtown Corvallis. One of the hazards of a project like this is the package size of certain beers. Yesterday, I picked up a growler at Block 15, but even with help from my wife, I couldn’t finish it.

So it’s neccessary to have some 12 ounce beers around for those days when you have a “liquid debt” accrued from too much accrued volume (64-ounce growler) or booze (13% abv double-bourbon barrel-aged triple stout in a 22 ounce bomber). It’s especially nice when that 12 ouncer is as special as its large-girthed brethren.

I gave this beer only three stars because it wasn’t exactly my taste in wood-aged IPA, but it was well-made and clearly the product of a great deal of time and effort. I also salute the idea of oaky/wacky beers in six-packs! Dogfish Head has held that niche for awhile and they seem to be doing okay …

Rumble Oak-Aged IPA Beer Review

Beer Name: Rumble Oak-Aged IPA
Brewer: Great Divide Brewing
Price: $1.75
Sampled: November 12, 2010
Rating: 3/5
Notes: Wow, this is available in six-packs?!? Seems too decadent/special for that. Pretty dry-tasting with lots of woody bitterness. Definitely hides alcohol. Vanilla.
ABV: 7.1% abv
IBU: N/A
OG N/A
TG N/A
Serving Type: Bottle.

* Corvallis Brew Supply is a retailer of 33 Beers books. This was my first visit, and their selection of beer is pretty great – some stuff I’ve never seen in PDX, especially in the obscure Belgian category. And of course, the proximity to teeny-tiny Oregon Trail down the street isn’t bad, either – I scored the last bottle of Bourbon Barrel Porter in town!
