I guess after nearly 1000 years, you learn a thing or two about brewing. This was a very tasty beer, despite wheat beers not really being my thing. It had a very complex flavor, and lacked the coarse bubbles, high spice levels and astringency I don’t admire in some domestic styles. My mind isn’t changed, but when I finally make it to Munich, I’m going to have to see if this brewery does tours.

They not only have tours, but they are the school of brewing for Munich and beyond. Not exactly in Munich, but outside it and not far from the airport. A good example of the style, but my preference is Franziskaner.
Your 33 Bottles notebook is exceptional. Can’t wait to buy a few and fill them up.

this is my favorite large-production brewery. their “original premium” lager has a slightly sweet, estery character akin to red stripe, but better. i like mahr’s better, but it’s rare and pricey. the best german i’ve ever had was kraus keller beer from a firkin in NYC- it redefined balance for me, and i would gladly drink pints a day for the rest of my life- not a common distinction.
