I was pretty excited about this beer today. By sheer cooincidence, I made gumbo last night. Today, my friend Dan (a diehard Saints fan) invited us over to watch today’s playoff game against the Vikings. I offered to bring said gumbo. And I had this “New Orleans” beer in the fridge. It just seemed too … too good to be true. You see, this beer is actually brewed in Wisconsin. The Dixie brewery in New Orleans closed after Katrina, and has yet to start brewing again, choosing instead to contract brew at Minhas Brewing in Monroe, WI. And while I don’t mind that bit of bootstrapping (Sam Adams is nearly 100% contract brewed), this beer is well below average, about what you’d expect from the people who bring you “Hi Test Malt Liquor.” Still, my gumbo was great. And the Saints? There’s 10 minutes left in OT.
