I’m still at the beach, but getting ready to head back … physically, but not mentally. How can you be ready to leave this view (taken from our rental’s porch at sunset last night)?
I went to Pelican Brewing in Pacific City, Oregon yesterday and had a pint of their delicious India Pelican Ale with my not-so-delicious fish tacos. But I tasted a Pelican beer on day 1 of Oregon Craft Beer Month, thus disqualifying them from review today.
Thankfully, my wife was good enough to pick up a bottle from one of my favorite Oregon breweries, though it’s nowhere near the coast. Heater-Allen is a relative newcomer to the Oregon brewing scene (they opened in 2007), but they fill an interesting spot in here in ale country by specializing in lagers.
As I’ve progressed through this project, I’ve come to appreciate the crispness and light body associated with “typical” lagers such as Pilseners, and the surprising complexity of bocks. This is still relatively new territory to me, but for this project, that’s a good thing. I have lots of exploring left to do!
