Gosh, I love living in Portland. I enjoyed this beer sitting at the sunny front tables of Bailey’s Taproom, which has a constantly rotating tap list of Oregon’s (and the nation’s) finest beers. Cascade is a favorite brewery I sometimes forget about. Their “stock” beers (Amber, IPA, etc.) are nothing special, and the brewpub on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway is a decent local, but not a destination. Their sour beers, however … another story entirely.
The Vine is a unique blend of grape juice and various batches of Belgian-style beer, soured with a special blend of funk, and aged in barrels. The tartness is pretty high, but the complexity is a match. This is a really unique beer that stands up to even the best Belgian sours, and one that’s perfectly Portland.
