Spokane is a really underrated town, I think. The downtown is small, but surprisingly cool, with a beautifully restored, turn of the century downtown hotel (the Davenport), a great bookstore (Auntie’s), and something I guess I’d call a “vertical mall” in the heart of downtown that’s at least 6 stories tall, with a really nice theater taking the top two floors. How do I know all this? My wife’s family runs a winery called Mountain Dome that makes amazing sparkling wine on top of a large hill that has to have one of the most amazing views I’ve ever woken up to. This Spokane beer? Not underrated per se, but not great, either. Pale Ale tricky, and ultimately, I think this one is missing something – some aroma hops, perhaps?

    Dave:

Great blog, I just stumbled upon your newest enterprise other day. As a resident Spokanite, I appreciate the shout-out to Northern Lights (though I generally prefer the IPA, Winter or Anniversary). We met back at FredFest ’09 and had a lengthy discussion about my use of your bacon recipe and the all-powerful “bacon week.”

Do drop me an e-mail if you are in the Spokane area and we’ll go grab a beer.
