Oregon Craft Beer Month

Hey, see anything new in this review? Look carefully. With your eyes.

There’s a new flavor wheel! After reviewing hundreds of beers, and selling thousands of beer-tasting books, I made a change to the review pages, most notably on the flavor wheel section (I also added a checkbox for “cask” beers to the “serving type” area).

Gone is “Sulphury,” replaced with “Herbal,” which is something I find is a more common attribute in beer. I also killed “Fruity/Estery,” and replaced it with “Dark Fruit,” which I think is a nice complement to “Citrus Fruit.”

Everything else is the same! The books are still printed in Portland on 100% recycled paper with US-grown soy inks. They’re still 3 for $10 or $4 each. And I still hand-stuff every envelope. 33 Cheers!

I just recently purchased your pocket book but I’m new to this whole microbrew beer world. I’m getting confused on some of the flavor wheel words as in what they really mean because when I look some of the words up on the internet it seems they mean some of the same words that you have on there already. So I was kind of wondering if you could give me a short definition or description of the words as to what they mean in the beer world?
