A year ago today, I was shivering my way from heated space to heated space in sunny Madison, Wisconsin, getting ready to head over to the hotel where my old college roommate Brian was having his wedding reception. I had checked into the hotel the night before, making my way over to the Essen Haus, and as such, never had the chance to crack the can of Old Capital Wheat he’d left in my room as a wedding favor.

This is not that beer.

I thought it was still in the fridge, but it turns out the yellow can with blue type that I thought was the can of Capital Wheat I was saving was actually a can of Wally’s Wheat I picked up in Vancouver, B.C. a few weeks later. At any rate, cheers to you Brian, Betsy and Elise! Happy anniversary anyway.

It forms a cool swallow-like form on the flavor wheel. Who’s from Madtown? That’s where I went to grad school. Hope you managed to track down some New Glarus.

My old roommate Brian is from Madison. Well, Sun Prarie, actually. I did make a pilgrimage to New Glarus, and picked a couple bottles to make the ride home. I’ll be breaking them out at some point soon.
