Must be kismet. June 15th’s beer was made by a member of the family that founded the Maytag washing machine company in Newton, Iowa. This beer is named after the first washing machine produced by the Maytag company (The “Pastime”), and brewed in Newton, Iowa.
Alas, that’s the end of the relationship between these two beers, unless you count the color of the bottle. Where Fritz and Ken’s Stout was a world-class, 5-star beer, this one merits just two stars. I’d probably drink it again at a party if nothing else was around, but I wouldn’t buy it.
I do love the label design, though, and suspect I might know the designer (I’m also a graphic designer from Iowa).

Pastime is made by Mason Groben, a brewer from Des Moines. No descendant of the Maytag family is involved with this brewery.

Sorry, Wilson – I probably was being too cryptic. The name of this beer (Pastime) is based on a Maytag product name.
The beer I reviewed the previous day is (sort of) made by Anchor Brewing, who is/was owned by Fritz Maytag, who is related to the Maytag family.

I’m not crazy about the label. It looks like a candy bar wrapper.
