Once again, I’m busting the myth that growlers need to be consumed within a day or two of leaving the brewery. Five days after its purchase, this baby was as fresh as the day it left the serving lines, with lively carbonation and still crisp hops. The key is filling the growler to the tip-top and closing the lid near-wrench-tight.

Informed by Jeff Alworth’s blogroll, I began reading your blog post this morning. Initially in reverse chronological order, then to pilsner. I like to concept

Pilsner is my preferred beer. I lived in warmer climes more than half my life; Texas, So. Calif., Colorado front range, No. Virginia. Salem is now our home.

Recent to Oregon, recent to craft beer, informed by Michael Pollan of the Slow Food Movement, I undertook to find local pilsners. I have been very successful.

The first entries on my Pilsner Leaderboard read:
01 Hopworks Urban Brewery – [Pilsner] Lager, Portland
02a Bayern – Pilsener, Missoula, Mont.
02b Baron – Pilsner, Seattle, Wash.
04 Lagunitas – Czech Style Pilsner, Petaluma, Calif.
05 Caldera – Pilsener Bier, Ashland
06 Heater Allen – Pils, McMinnville
07 Southern Oregon – Na Zdravi’ Authentic Czech Pils, Medford

I look forward to more and more reviews.
